Steel Processing

We deliver automation-driven steel processing that cuts labour demand, lifts accuracy, and keeps complex builds moving — zero downtime.

New Zealand’s commercial construction sector is operating under pressure: reduced labour pools, compressed project timelines, and the ongoing demand for absolute dimensional accuracy. Automation is essential to sustainable productivity and predictable project delivery.

Allwin Steel (Residential) and ACE Structural (Commercial) provide one of the country’s most advanced integrated steel‑processing capabilities, enabling engineering firms, fabricators and major contractors to offload labour‑intensive work and introduce industrial‑scale precision into their supply chain. Our technology suite removes bottlenecks, reduces on‑site risk and transforms throughput — without requiring additional headcount.

A Smarter Operating Model

Rather than rebuilding labour‑heavy fabrication teams, industry leaders are shifting to a hybrid approach: retaining high‑value fabrication work in‑house and outsourcing processing to specialist automated facilities.

This delivers:

  • Material neutrality – you supply the steel; we process it.
  • No margin stacking – avoiding unnecessary purchase mark‑ups.
  • Machine‑driven accuracy – essential for engineering and QS validation.
  • Rapid turnaround – processed steel is returned in days, not weeks (quantum dependent).
  • Lower labour dependency – maintain output in a constrained employment market.
  • High reliability – repeatable tolerances significantly reduce rework.

Our Processing Capabilities

Plasma Cutting Processing

High-definition plasma cutting suited to cleats, plates, gussets and complex profiles, delivering clean edges and tight tolerances across a wide range of thicknesses. Efficient nesting optimises material usage, reducing wastage while maintaining consistent part quality.

Components are produced ready for downstream fabrication, welding and assembly, improving fit-up accuracy and reducing time spent on rework or correction. This capability is ideal for both bespoke elements and high-volume repeatable parts, supporting reliable throughput and predictable fabrication schedules. Parts can also have marking system turned on for total placement accuracy. This dramatically speeds up fabricator cleat positioning.

Combination Drill/Saw Processing

Our combo drill/saw is purpose-built for structural steel (I beam, box section, angle) that require accurate cutting to length and repeatable hole drilling for efficient downstream fabrication.

Fully integrated for high-volume, high-precision processing across commercial and industrial structural projects. Capabilities include drilling and countersinking, slotting, threading, milling of complex shapes, and four-side cleat marking for millimetre-accurate interface points.

This level of accuracy accelerates fabrication, reduces manual layout, and improves fit-up and installation quality on site. We process a wide range of sections, including UB / UC, PFC, SHS / RHS, and equal and unequal angles (65mm and above). Currently completing 600 t 400WC (3 t per length) each with 100+ holes ranging from 46mm – 12mm, slots and 60 degree cuts.

Beam Liner Processing

Our beam liner is purpose-built for complex structural steel (I beams, box section, angle) that require precise, model-driven processing across long sections. The system integrates advanced plasma cutting, marking and profiling directly from approved shop drawings, enabling complex hole patterns, slots and profiles to be produced accurately and consistently in a single pass. This ensures each unit is processed exactly as detailed, supporting reliable downstream fabrication and predictable site assembly without rework or correction.

This capability is particularly valuable for high-volume or repeatable elements, where consistency across beams is critical to connection quality and installation efficiency.

Beam Blasting & Surface Preparation

Sweep blasting of beams, angles, box sections, plates and cleats, delivering clean, consistent surfaces for welding or coating. This improves coating adhesion, weld quality and QA consistency prior to finishing.

Precision Assembly Method

Our automated marking systems simplify fabrication and significantly reduce dependency on manual layout. Each cleat position and connection point is machine‑marked, enabling fabricators to align components and weld with accuracy and efficiency.

When combined with pre‑blasted materials, a single pack shop-primer can return components to site rapidly, supporting fast project staging.

BENEFITS INCLUDE:

  • Reduced layout time.
  • Lower rework rates.
  • Predictable Fabrication outputs.
  • Faster overall programme delivery.

Programme certainty through Better Drawings

We collaborate with detailers and engineers to:

  • Validate and optimise shop drawings (we run the latest Tekla 2025 software).
  • Prepare files for automated processing.
  • Identify clashes before production.

Strong documentation ensures quality throughout fabrication, coating and installation.
